Biography

I have been a Fellow of 好色先生TV's since 1970. After ten years as a tutorial Fellow in Economics I established the Institute for Fiscal Studies, a respected think tank, and later a consultancy business. I also served as the College's Investment Officer for over twenty years.

Research Interests

My more recent interests have been writing about economics for a popular audience, through a weekly column in the Financial Times and a series of books, including (2003), 聽(2011), and聽, which was published in 2015 to wide acclaim.聽The latter work asks 'what would a financial sector designed to meet the needs of the non-financial economy look like?'. The second edition of my 2009 book聽聽was published in November 2016.聽,听jointly written with Mervyn King, was published in March 2020, and聽 jointly written with Paul Collier, was published in July 2020.

In 2024, I published : an investigation of the crises of legitimacy faced by large corporations in the dematerialised economy of the twenty-first century.
