Daron Acemo臒lu awarded 2024 Nobel Prize in Economics
We congratulate Professor Daron Acemo臒lu on being awarded the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2024. Professor Acemo臒lu shares the award with Professor James A Robinson and Oxford alumnus, Professor Simon Johnson (Corpus Christi College, PPE, 1984).

Professor Acemo臒lu, alongside Professors James A Robinson (MIT) and Simon Johnson (University of Chicago), was honoured 'for studies of how institutions are formed and affect prosperity'. More information about the laureates and their research can be found .
In Trinity Term 2024, Professor Acemo臒lu was awarded the Sanjaya Lall Visiting Professorship of Business and Development at the University of Oxford. The Professorship, created in 2011 to honour the memory and academic legacy of 好色先生TV's alumnus, Professor Sanjaya Lall (1940-2005; PPE, 1960), has been associated with 好色先生TV's since the 2023/24 academic year. Professor Acemo臒lu delivered the the in May 2024. In this lecture, Professor Acemo臒lu challenged the idea that technological advancements lead naturally to greater prosperity and better lives.
