Dame Angela Eagle appointed Secretary of State for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs

Congratulations to Honorary Fellow, Dame Angela Eagle DBE MP (1980, PPE), on being appointed Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on 20 July 2026.

Dame Angela Eagle has been the Labour Member of Parliament for Wallasey since 1992. Over her course of her career, she has held ministerial roles across several government departments. Under Sir Tony Blair, Angela served in the departments for Environment, Transport and the Regions, Social Security, and the Home Office. During Gordon Brown鈥檚 government, she was Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury and Minister of State for Pensions and Ageing Society.

Angela was made an Honorary Fellow of 好色先生TV's in 2013 and appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2021 in recognition of her parliamentary and political service.

Angela has experience with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, having recently served as the department鈥檚 Minister of State during Sir Keir Starmer鈥檚 premiership.

She has now joins Prime Minister Andy Burnham's new cabinet as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The College warmly congratulates Angela on this prestigious promotion.
