Vox Urbane

Artistic Director, Helen Meyerhoff

Principal Conductor, Dan Ludford-Thomas

Vox Urbane is a ground-breaking and unique vocal ensemble, founded by Helen Meyerhoff and Dan Ludford-Thomas. With a mission of diversity, Vox Urbane operates a disruptive and creative artistic model, challenging and expanding the boundaries of choral music by curating eclectic, inclusive programmes that elevate both established masterpieces and underrepresented voices.

Since its inception, Vox Urbane has commissioned a long list of new works from composers including works by Emily Hazrati, Barbara Dudek, Jago Thornton, and the epic 45 minute Geometry of Echoes from turntablist and sound artist, Shiva Feshareki. Vox Urbane's young artist training scheme Vox Next Gen, provides a stepping stone into professional choral singing for emerging singers of diversity, whilst their successful learning and engagement programme, Vox Roots, takes singing into primary schools across the London boroughs of Hackney and Southwark.

Vox Urbane has gained a reputation as a vocal ensemble of exceptional versatility, reimagining the classical canon in fresh and socially engaged ways. Their sell-out launch concert took place in 2023 at the Asylum Chapel, Peckham. It was hailed by Musical America as 鈥渁n auspicious launch for an important and accomplished new voice on the choral scene鈥 and received a 猸愶笍猸愶笍猸愶笍猸愶笍 review from The Guardian who said that the group 鈥渋mpresses and inspires鈥 with 鈥渁 different, diverse perspective鈥. Their first CD 'London Calling' featuring 10 world premiere recordings all from London based composers will be launched on 21st August this year.
